Joint Premiers Mission to China and Japan
The first joint initiative announced under the New West Partnership, an economic partnership between British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan, was a joint premiers mission to China and Japan. The three-city tour to Shanghai, Beijing and Tokyo aimed to strengthen business ties and attract investment to Western Canada – with a particular focus on natural resources, agriculture/agrifood and clean energy.
The premiers announced the opening of a joint office in Shanghai, met with corporate and government investors and spoke to business and media about the economic advantages of the New West Partnership.
Former Premier Gordon Campbell witnessed the signing of a range of corporate deals and academic partnerships between B.C. companies, universities and their counterparts in China and Japan. The Premier also met with key companies who had participated in the 2010 Olympic Winter Games hosting program, strengthening business relations with key clients and investors including Air China, COSCO, Mitsubishi, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, Nippon Cable and many others.
